Workforce profile
The group profile is representative of the demographics within which the group operates, with black employees accounting for 87% of the total employees. Females comprise 68% of total staff and black female representation is 91%.

Recognising employees' contributions
Employee recognition and reward mechanisms include annual and monthly awards, attractive commission schemes and an annual bonus scheme – all of which motivate staff to constantly outperform. All awards are aligned to the company values, drive performance and recognise contribution to the success of the business. Other benefits include membership of a defined contribution provident fund and group life and permanent disability insurance.

Employee engagement
To improve staff engagement levels, the company regularly commissions surveys to measure staff satisfaction and to assist in identifying areas to promote employee engagement.

Skills development
As an accredited training provider with the Wholesale and Retail SETA and accredited with the South African Board of Practitioners, several learning and development initiatives are available to employees, many of which are aligned with the National Qualifications Framework, allowing employees to gain formal credits when attending these programmes.

Employee wellness
A comprehensive employee assistance programme, ChoiceCare, provides staff with all-hours toll-free telephonic support on legal, financial and psycho-social issues. Staff and their dependants also have access to free personal counselling. In 2014 we expanded this service to include an online e-Care portal to enable staff to access an online health and wellness programme to optimise their well-being through a range of resources including personalised weekly e-mails and monthly newsletters and access to a medical encyclopedia and panel of experts.
